Okay lets talk! Throughout the last week I have been attempting to design without having a shock effect within my design. But it seems to me that alot of the winning architecture has some sort of shock effect to it.
This image of the Oslo Opera House in Norway to me has an indeed shock effect. This huge concrete building looks similar to a ship design. (Whats up with so many ship looking buildings). I indeed like the design but it does to me have a shock effect to it. Which leads me to my question....Should you always have some sort of shock effect within your design? Is traditional architecture not award-winning?

Hey V, it is weird how this building is quite so popular. I heard about it at Arch Exchange East and I read an article about it in Architecture Record magazine. But shock value needed??? I don't think so. There are many good designs out there that doesn't have shock value. When I was deigning my project for the Newport News site, I tried to add some "shock" value to it; however, I am not used to going crazy with my designs. So therefore, I stuck with good ol' Isiah architecture and I am comfortable with how my design has come out now because I think I found something that helps me make (good)designs without being so "shocking" with it. Hope you understood what I said.
